This soft approach pisses me off. Why do some people in Western countries think it's so humane to be soft towards criminals ? Don't we owe victims of rape, murder, drug abuse, child pron etc. that we severely punish the offenders ? I heard in Belgium child sex offenders even get days off from prison...what a country !

A few weeks ago a sex offender did not return from a day off and murdered two girls of around 10 years old in the French speaking part of Belgium

OK, don't get the wrong idea here, I am just as hard on sex offenders as anybody else. They need to be punished in a way that ensures they do NOT do these horrendous crimes again.
My problem is with your final statement that libels the entire judicial system of Belgium. My research shows that while their laws may be more lenient than ours, they are working to strengthen them, due to the outrage of many of the countrymen there. I found NO indication that sex offenders get *days off* from prison and would like to know where you *heard* this information so I can check for myself just how true it is before believing it. Thanks!

Child sex offenders actually have mental troubles controlling the urge.. they should be imprisioned for life. There is no real way to reform them short of lobotomy which is considered inhumane. Castration doesn't stop the brain from thinking about it.. The only way to keep them from acting on their fantasy is to imprision them away from children indefinately. With murder, it depends on the charge, the reasons behind it.. such as if my child was a victim of a sex offender, should I go to prison for life if I take their life? Drug abuse is a addiction. We can't imprison them for that, only for the possesion or intent to distribute the drugs.. we can send them to drug treatment but will it be effective if it isn't for a long period of time? Probably not. Kiddie porn falls under pedophile sex offense.. prison for life. Rape isn't usually about sex. It's about control. Repeat offenders should be jailed for life. There is no reform for them either. However, how many groups do you think are out there that would make a big stink if we were to change things to my way of thinking? The legal system has a lot of flaws, but at least we have one.

I think a sex offender needs life in prison without parole. While in prison, he/she needs done to them what they did to their victims. As for the murder and drug abuse offenders, they need some kind of punishment also.
