she pees and poops on herself. I do not leave her in there long, no more than 3 hours at a time. She only does it during the day, not over night. I always take her out and make sure she goes before I put her in. Is this something she will grow out of? Is there something I can do to hasten it? She came from a bad home where the guy would leave her pent up all day and I think she was forced to go on herself.

If she truly came from a bad home and therefore had to go on herself or explode she is probably smart enough to realize that she might as well just let it out rather than hold it. She's in a better home now but she doesn't know for sure how long she'll be in her crate. I suggest doing away with the crate and finding another means of confinement. Due to her history I doubt she'll grow out of it unless she can get away from the crate.

SHe will grow out of it but for now if you can make less space for her it will help. Put a box in the back of the crate so she doesn't have room to sniff around and find someplace to go. You may even change feeding times to coorespond with when she is going in her crate to a better time you can get her out.

Well then it might be normal to her. All you have to do is give a lot of love and where ever she goes the most in the cage put a mat under it. Make sure to have plenty of old blankets in her cage that smell like you. So she doesn't feel lonely while you are gone thus relaxing her and making her feel like she doesn't have to go in her cage. This might take a while for her to relax. For the mean time give her as much love and time as you can.

I'm sorry to here that your dog had to live that way, but she are in a good place now. it could be that or she has had to do that or she is lonely or Bord. so put a blanket on the floor of the kennel give her, her favorite toy and see what happens.

Three hours is a long time for a puppy. Try taking her out every hour or two. As she gets older, she will be able to hold it longer.

Poor little one!! You could be right, she thinks it is the right thing to do. Why keep her in a crate. I have never "boxed" (crated) any of my dogs. You'll have to retrain her, doll. Good luck.
