Hiccups are a mild form of heartburn. There are several ways of getting rid of them. For me drinking milk or eating bread helps because it absorbs the acid in my stomach. Also holding my breath helps me because I am forcing my diaphragm down in my esophagus and it forces the acid to stay down.

If this is frequent, like a daily issue, see your doctor. Drinking alcohol definitely brings on hiccups for most people.
