Religion is an institution, within a religion there are ideas and concepts that the institution holds true. Religious people lives within a congregation of like-minded people who declare that these ideas and concepts to be true for them. In that sense, a mass is really a social club meeting. If you belong in a club, are you brainwashed? I suppose we should rescue the members of Oprah Book Club, because clearly they're delusional if they think reading those books will teach them about living a better life.

An unbeliever is really a slave to sin. The devil has others brainwashed into thinking they don't need Christ. Us Christians are free- free from sin!! (well, Jesus forgives us of any sin if we ask Him.) You can be too- you can find true joy in Him. Your avatar looks so sad- are you sad? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. I am not brainwashed you know, it's good to study the bible, and find the truth about what you believe, why you believe it. I was blind, but now I see.
p.s. I do not consider myself "religious" by the way.

I don't know, but the simple fact that they believe God created the earth just a few thousand years ago, when there is scientific evidence that the planet is like 4 billion years old, makes these religious zealots seem extremely gulable. Why is it that religious people will believe the most elaborate stories about creation and evolution (like a 40 day flood, parting the red sea, soddom and gammorah, immacuate conception) but can't believe things when facts are put in front of their face. Mary was married to joseph when she had jesus, she was not a virgin. To believe that They were married and never had sex, that is just plain gulability. Hey, church goers, I have the nails used to fasten Jesus to the cross in my garage, wanna buy them for a nominal fee? The earth was created before stories of God and Jesus, before the bible was written, and there are other planets and solar systems that no one has ever seen, including God.

The same thing could be said that teaching your kids to do what is right while they are young is brainwashing, so no.
However if they are not able to think for themselves I would say that there is a problem. If you have faith such as Christianity you need to believe in it becasue you do, not cuz peer pressure or your parents. Just like voting, a good voter doesn't just ask their parents, they look into who is the right choice for them. There are cults such as Jehovah Witnesses, and even Mormanism, that I think do some brain washing.

A person can be religious and still be lost and go to hell if he doesn't accept Jesus Christ as their savior. It's very simple that even a child can understand. If the Holy Spirit is convicting you of your sins "wrong doings", then open your heart and confess and believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, confess before men that you have accepted Jesus as your savior and be babtized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. You will experience the Greatest Gift Ever. Salvation from your sins and a Home in Heaven when you die.

Why is it that people who choose to let their faith have an active role in their lives, they're considered brainwashed and need rescuing? Have you noticed that many people who have faith that is meaningful to them don't get caught up in drugs and alcohol? Perhaps they don't need the rescuing.

We're all slaves, some are slaves to God, some are slaves to themselves. Everyone has a God, but that God differs. Sometimes it's God Almighty, sometimes it's money, sometimes it's pride, sometimes it's physical pleasure, sometimes it's drugs, etc. We're all slaves to something, as to what that something is, it's up to us. And yes, even Atheists/Agnostics are slaves to something. They are slaves to whatever they value most.

It is not my place to rescue anyone. That is their choice to believe what they do. BUT people need to learn some manners and stop getting into one another's faces with their pet dogmas. Put your dogma on a leash people!
