I don't see what legal action you can take against him if this is what he has made up his mind to do. Unless your parents loaned him all the money for the education and this is in some type of evidence or on paper then they could take him to court but you can't take legal action on him if your parents helped him under their own free will. A court would look at that and say your parents willingly did this under their own free will. I'm really sorry this has happened to your family, but this is the type of dirty things people do to family each and everyday. Your brother will have what's coming to him for using your parents this way. Nothing good can happen to a person when they are in the wrong like he is. They would also have to go to court in the US if they wanted to take him. I don't see a court doing anything about this because there is no criminal activity with this and it wasn't a loan. If it was a loan your parents should have written up a letter stating that your brother would have to pay back the money and he would have needed to sign it. I don't think there's help here. I'm very sorry.

In this country you can sue anybody over pretty much anything in civil court. It is going to come down to if he signed any contract for the money. In the situation you are describing though, the court would think he was a cad, but that's about it.

Can't help you with the India Justice system, I am not familiar with it.

Although that really sucks that he's treated your parents that way and your plea is more cultural than anything, there's really nothing you can do. Maybe there is more to it than you know, maybe he's not doing as well as you all think he's doing and too embarassed to say anything, who knows! America can be a tough place to find a job, and the stresses of knowing that your family is going to depend on you can't be that easy. There's always two sides to every story and unfortunately we only have yours. My suggestion? Pray for him that he's safe, had a good job and that he'll have a change of heart for his family. That's all I can say.

No legal action at all.

This is the 21st century and all men and women have the right to live their lives where and how they want within the laws of that land.

When you have children you do not do so to have them look after you like unpaid slaves, you look after them and give them what you can so that they can live happy and fulfilled lives of their own.

I understand your culture and sympathise with how you feel, but your brother has done nothing wrong and you should respect his way of life.

there is no legal action you can take what he did is morally wrong.Your parents worked hard to get him where he is today and he up and leaves them like that thats wrong. You be the man now and stand up and take care of your parents and if he ever comes crawling back forget he ever existed to.
