Actually this war started months before when a Islamic leader was killed and a number of border fights happened. In one of these fights two soldiers were captured by Hezbollah.
News media like to ignore the context. But this is what has happened. Hezbollah and Israel have since been killing any civilian that they come across. Hezbollah has been firing rockets randomly into Israel and Israel has been striking UN observation posts, as many as 30 times a day, as well as Hospitals, ambulances, buses carrying civilian away from the conflict, humanitarian convoys, and other non military targets. Civilians are trying to get away but are having trouble find transportation, and Israel has declared that any civilian that hasn't evacuated are Hezbollah supporters.
Both sides are guilty of war crimes.

The obvious rebuttal is that wait a second the Lebonese people didnt evict Hezbollah at all, and much less didnt make an attempt to. So Israel was forced to do it themselves.
If Hezbollah was in America we'd make a conscious effort to evict them.
BUT
Before those who would argue this stop remember the US once let a notorious evil Iranian leader stay inside this country for medical care, knowing that the PEOPLE of Iran after years of oppression would not favor this decision. Following the US letting him in a little event called the Iranian Hostage Crisis happened.
My point is even THE UNITED STATES can become a target by an outside nation if that outside nation's people truely believe that the US is doing something that is outside of their interest.
Now imagine if that was Israel dissapproving of the US' handling of say a Yasser Arafat? It's not right that they can just feel a need to attack us because we deal with their enemy the way we want, but remember thats the way these guys are playing.
Thats the way Israel is playing and thats the way Bin Laden is playing. The muslim world dissapproves on how we arm Israel and we cannot be blind that we one day will get attacked because of it.
So I would say its best to keep up the contacts keep Israel armed as to thwart future attacks on us directly and lets not be naive if Israel had to it would.

There would be no need for them to.
If your scenario were to occur - US law enforcement would be hunting for the people who did it. Since Lebanon made no form of good faith effort to apprehend the responsible people and free the kidnap victims themselves - they demonstrated that Israel could not depend on 'the rule of law' to resolve the issue.
Another issue that you seem to miss is that Lebanon's allowing Hezbollah to cross the border and attack Israel was an act of war against Israel.
Lebanon made themselves a party to the conflict and now are facing the consequences.

Are you that dumb?
The United States can police itself and it would clearly handle the situation. Israel would welcome the American involvement anyway.
On the other hand, the Lebanese have done nothing to stop Hezbollah, thereby forcing Israel to take matters into their own hands or suffer rocket after rocket being fired at their innocent civilians on a daily basis.
