Not hard unless you're a prissy wuss. There were plenty of those when I went through last year, and they still got through. The guys and girls are kept separate, so you don't have to worry about trying to compete against the guys, even though there are time when you can... and I kicked almost all of their asses!
It gets hard to spend time with all though girls in the barracks. You want to kill the whinny ones. My suggestion is to try to be an element leader. It makes it a lot easier. I thought basic was fun. It was easy too. You can look up the physical stats that you need to meet on-line. They are not hard at all.
Basic is a lot of standing and waiting for the TI's and a lot of marching around. You will be sitting in classes learning about a lot of boring stuff. It's death by power point. You will learn the in depth meaning of rape, sexual harassment, and sexual assault...over and over again. It's easy if you can follow directions. It's amazing how simple directions become hard to follow when someone yells them at you. It's not scary. If you want it to be easier then you should live on your own for a few months at least before you go in. That was the big killer for a lot of girls. They would cry about not being their family. That is just ridiculous.
Don't be scared of basic training. It's all a game. It's fun if you make it fun. Think of it like this... you get paid to get in shape! And even at that, you only do about an hour of working out 5 days a week. Sundays you go to church if you want and it is really laid back. You might want to learn how to eat really really fast. Here's a secret, they tell you that you have 10minutes to eat, but they yell at you to eat in about 1-3 minutes. DO NOT be scared to sit there and eat. They HAVE to give that 10 minutes and you wont get in trouble for it. Too many of the girls are scared of the TI's and don't question them or do things right. Have confidence in yourself and make sure they know it. Oh, but wait until after "zero week" to do so. Be respectful, but don't let them scare you. They don't insult you (much) and they don't hurt you. So what is there to be scared of? nothing. It's fun.

To answer your question from a Female Army Veteran: It's hard more mentally than physically. Mentally you are away from your family and you don't have much personal effects so you may miss home a lot. Physically your body is trained to do a real workout because of the early mornings and sometimes late nights. Your ego may at first take a shot or two because someone else is always telling you what to do and how to do it. Get ready to get dirty if your a pretty girl but, you can hang it. In the end you'll have confidence to do many things you never thought you could and endure a hardship that some give up mid-way through just hang tough and remember it's all mental and those men and women instructor's have families and have made it through this too. You can do all things through Christ take Him with you and it won't be nearly as hard emotionally.

While I am also looking into the Air Force I have only heard stories since I go take my ASVAB Thursday but pretty much needless to say Wayne is being ignorant. Air Force is the brains of the military and as such does not put as much emphasis on physical activity sure but I hear they make up for that with the mind games TI's play. Yes they will yell every branch basic training people get yelled at but form what I hear it's less than the other branches. From what I have heard the only thing to worry about is the various mind games and tricks that may be attempted on you. Further edit- As you see by Wayne's edit he is in fact ignorant and is a sad man.

I was in the military and was an instructor there as well. They train you hard and will ride your ***. When you get there make sure to never stare at them directly in the eyes. Always look at there eyebrows. When you salute make sure its middle finger to eyebrow once again don’t do it like in the movies. As well get ready for revelry at 430 am. Make sure your in shape prior to getting in. You will do a lot of exercising and it seems for nothing because to pass you only need to do 15 pushups and pull-ups and so forth. We only do it because it gets you in shape the other stuff that is. Make sure that you stencil in your clothing fast as well but neat.
And last never back talk and never call them sir or maim if you are going into the navy, or coast Guard they work for a living they tell you.
There’s a lot more I could warn you about. But this should help. Just remember don’t be nervous there not there to pick you out, there just weaning out the garbage.

Hello, it depends on which Basic Trainging you are talking about (which branch of the military). All of them are different and some are more strenous than others. For the most part you can expect a lot of exercise and lots of team building activities. Also, you can't forget being yelled at :) I would be happy to go into more detail if you like.....I was in the Marine Corps :) Take Care -

Lots of exercise. Lots of training both in the classroom and in the field. Little or no makeup and lots of dirt and sweat.

There is little difference between men and women in BMT. Some of the physical standards are slightly different due to limitations in upper body strength, but only by a small matter of degree.

For the most part it is the same for women as men, at least in the Army. The exceptions being that men usually have to actually complete the entire 15-17 mile march by foot, the men must do more physically as far as fitness, when the girls get hurt they actually get driven to the hospital, and the chances for a guy to have sex with his D.I. are a lot less than for the women. Other than that you have to do everything else.

The same thing a boy should expect; there is no different training. You over exert yourself and build yourself back up. It' a lot of hard work, a lot of stinky nights, but once it's over with you feel like you accomplish something. Every base is a little different. I went through in 2000. If you have any other questions contact me.

It is the same for you. It doesn't matter whether you are male or female. The only difference is that females are required to do less push ups, sit ups and run 2miles in more time. That is my experience with Army basic training.

Ma'am Yes Ma'am and you will answer accordingly. You will fold your Bra's in a certain fashion and you will fold your panties in a certain fashion. Men must fold their underwear in a six inch square, Women, I have no idea idea , but there is a certain way to fold it and place it in your drawer.
No fraternizing with males when wearing the uniform. No SEX for 12 weeks....it's impossible for me to live by those standards. The best part probably is when all the females take a shower together...now that's alot of fun:)
