I'd like to get a decent mountain or hybrid bike around the $200 price range. Any suggestions?
Are these brands pretty good? -- Carrera, Quest, Mongoose, Columbia

You're not going to get a good or decent mountain bike in that price range. Even the Mongooses and Schwinns at Wal-Mart are not the same as what can be purchased at a reputable bike shop. You may be satisfied with a Wal-Mart Mongoose but don't be surprised when you have to replace it in two years. I bought a higher end Wal-Mart Mongoose with full suspension and disc breaks and after less than two years spokes started popping and the rear shock is completely seized up. The rear axle is bent (from putting too much torque on the crank in too low of a gear) and the rear bearing races are totally shot and I swear to god I didn't abuse it. I will be moving up to a mid level road bike :-)

200 bucks will usually get you REAL STEAL bikes ( EBAY EBAY EBAY website---look for the sports category---then you'll find CYCLING then click 'Complete Mountain Bikes/Frames'---then you choose what you find COOL! ) If its 2nd hand ---find something with no scratches, dents, damage and with excellent brands in it ( Shimano LX. good V-brakes, NO RUST any place.) and make sure you find your size. ( Test as soon as possible too) And find a real bike shop near your home ( or if you like order via mail---www.pricepoint.com, www.cambriabikes.com, www.wheelworld.com) Take your time and RIDE!
