When Iran gets involved, before that its a proxy war between the two ,on one side Israel ,the other Hezbollah .Actually based on what happened since Israel launched the defencive turned offencive warfare on Lebanon ,Israel have been self ungraded to the status of terrorist ,and a state one, and be at par with Hezbollah ,by openly intruding deep into Lebanon , fighting head on with Hezbollah and killing innocent people .That explains why Israel is fighting for more time to continue the strikes , before a multi-nations UN peace keeping forces are send to Lebanon .
Until and unless Iran losses its head(with due respect to its high profile anti US and defiant UN position especially on uranium enrichment nuclear project ) ,as Israel turns wild and turned
terror to antagonise global community
Meanwhile, anyone realised that both president Bush and secretary of state Rice insisted the some thing on different occasions :Bush ,"must look for sustainable peace." Rice ,"must go for long term solution."
And war between two terrorist groups (at least two ) comtinue..

Because Lebanon allowed Hezbollah to attack Israel from within their country. Under international law - this is an act of war.
Apparently the Lebanese though this was a lot of fun right up until the time Israel started shooting back.

because lebanon does not seem to care that a terrorist organization which crossed into israel, killed 8 soldiers, kidnapped 2, is hiding all over lebanon in civilian areas, and is launching thousands of rockets out of those civilian areas.
If lebanon wanted them out, they would ask for help, and get it. They are responsible for allowing hezbollah, a group not affiliated with the military, to set up shop firing rockets, putting its civilians in danger.

US will never get involved directly, unless Iran attacks Israel. US would continue to support Israel with ammunitions and other logistic supports (satellite based data and pictures) to carry on the attacks on Hamas hide outs. Inspite of UN's demand for a cease fire, Israel shall continue bombing and ground offensive.
It will be an anti climax, if the two prisoners are released and sent back to Israel. Then Israel shall be forced for Cease Fire.
