How sweet was it, and what shape was it in? The Tamales I've had have been slightly sweet. They are cornmeal, corn, and usually bits of pork steamed in corn husk to make little dumplings. I get Goya brand ones in the "specialty" freezer section at the supermarket. Even if they're not what you're looking for, they're really yummy.

It's not Hush Puppies. Hush Puppies is a southern round bread deep fried corn meal with buttermilk and green onions and it's eaten with fish.

I guess a tamale, which is cornmeal paste wrapped in corn or banana husks and often stuffed with chicken, pork or turkey and/or vegetables, then steamed.
And here's one recipe http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_20684,00.html

Next time you are there, ask the waiter.. and if they don't know, ask to speak with the chef. They will be more than glad to tell you. They might not be able to give you the recipie but they can certainly tell you what is in it and what it is called.

I don't know but it sounds delicious - I definitely would ask at the restaurant - if you are not planning on going back any time soon - call and ask to speak to the manager and tell him/her your dilemma!@
