Beacuse religion is used as an excuse. If you ask any 'real' faith follower they will oppose war and fighting.

I think because we are all like robots - particularly soldiers - they have been trained to kill. Human beings can convince themselves anything is right, however horrific. None of us is born with a conscience - it is someting we must build through great effort. Most people are incapable of such effort and sleep walk their way through life believing they are highly principled and self possesed, or that they have self will or self control. Yet put them in a situation where they feel threatened and they soon lash out and start the blaming and the killing. The beast in us all is not too far beneath the surface. The worst people of all are those with great principles and religious beliefs. Just look around the world! Strait is the gate and narrow is the way!

You would be surprised at just how many "soldiers" are representatives of their country and its greater good - that is part of their oath, regardless of their religious affiliation - many soldiers go into the services with a basic belief system, but actually come out with a full-fledged understanding of what God is about as they have learned to rely on him for their very life - and few of these re-enlist - so before you go upsetting an applecart of soldiers who are protecting you and I, as they have been ordered, regardless of their beliefs right now, and regardless of if we believe they should be there or not, and I don't as a Christian think we should be, but we are, I still pray daily for those who are having to struggle with their faith and their service - it's two battles they fight everyday and a little support from the home front is not much to ask. So chill out on the USA soldiers. As for those who use god to be the catalyst of their war - they do not worship the same god, never have nor ever will and that is why their religion can have a god that requires of them war and blood shed. Before someone throws the Old Testament at me - Jesus Christ fulfilled the Old Testament laws with his life - if we did not have the Old Testament, we would still have all that we need - it is the history book that reminds us of what brought about the need for our Savior.

Every citizen should sustain the laws of his country and one of those laws is in the defense of liberty. If someone isn't willing to support and defend his country's Constitution and way of life then I suggest they leave for greener pastures outside the country's borders.
I realize some religions do not believe in fighting and supporting their country in time of need. I have a difficult time accepting that, but it is their choice.
Except for situations in combat such as the My Lai incident in Vietnam and several events occurring in Iraq recently, the U.S. Military must follow the orders of their superiors unless it runs counter to decency of life and murder.
To kill without question was a standing order of old, but no longer viable when pointing a rifle at unarmed civilians. Even then, a soldier must rest on his instincts, because just as it was in Vietnam, so too are classic situations of Iraqi civilians hiding grenades and other explosives under their shirts, just waiting for the golden moment to take a few soldiers out along with their glorious demise.
A soldier's life isn't easy; it's much like a fireman's job with a lot of waiting, but taking immediate response to danger or hostility. Without our military willing to put their all on the line for our country (the USA) you and I would not be leading our individual lives of freedom today.
Salute the next soldier you see. That will be a start for you.

have you ever heard the quote "if you want peace then prepare for war" It is very true of human civilisation some men are just suited to being soldiers better that their talents are put to use on the war field than the streets.

Like most things man does, he does not want to take the responsibility for his actions. It seems so much easier for most people to just blame God.

Killing in self-defense, or in defense of one's homeland, is not evil. It may be tragic, but it's not evil. Pacifism, on the other hand, is evil, because the pacifist values his own moral purity more than the lives of the innocent he should defend.

There is a difference in killing and murder. Killing is allowed in the Bible, murder isn't. Study it out and see why and what the difference is.
