First off we do not believe in the immortal soul. We do not accept blood transfusions from anyone. It does not matter if the blood comes from a fellow Witness or not. There are those who claim to be Witnesses but are not or who claim to know a Witness who did etc... My father-in-law at one point claimed to be a Witness, HE WAS DEFINITELY NOT. We are not against medicine. We do not feel our blood is better then anyone else's aside from what people do to themselves. The Bible principle that prohibits the accepting of blood transfusions is a universal guideline. All true Witnesses abide by the Bible. I find it offensive that one of the other answerer's implied that different Witnesses in different countries have different. We serve one God. We follow the Bible. There are no separate factions of Witnesses who follow their own guidelines. We are not a cult. This is not a rule that will change. As science advances we have to study hard to see what principles apply. If you want more information go to the source http://watchtower.org. Better yet you could drop by a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and politely ask your questions.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Bible prohibits the consumption, storage and transfusion of blood, including in cases of emergency. This view was introduced in 1945, though restrictions on the use of certain blood products and medical procedures have been relaxed over time. Their stance on blood has been a common source of controversy, as members have died from loss of blood.

JW's are so mixed up that they do take blood. If you ask them they will tell you that certain parts of blood they can take and they don't consider that taking blood! Any part of the blood you take is blood, they seem to have their own dictionary with different meanings to words,They wrote their own bible to suit their needs and belief, stay away from this cult! The book on cults has listed this cult as the most dangerous cult in america. You can research this cult by your search engine and you'll be surprised whos that thats knocking at your door. by the way Jehovah is not the name for God, that name is in error so why use it?

There interpretation of certain passages in the bible is that consumption/transusion of blood is a sin. They do not believe in a soul as other christians see it.

They wont even suck their own blood from their own finger if they have a cut.

Funny how different religions pick and choose how they interpret some bits of the bible, the bible still states that menstruating women cannot enter a church

According to the Bible Christians should abstain from blood. Acts 15:28, 29: “The holy spirit and we ourselves [the governing body of the Christian congregation] have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled [or, killed without draining their blood] and from fornication. If you carefully keep yourselves from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!” (There the eating of blood is equated with idolatry and fornication, things that we should not want to engage in.)m blood. Only sacrificial use of blood has ever been approved by God

Lev. 17:11, 12: “The soul of the flesh is in the blood, and I myself have put it upon the altar for you to make atonement for your souls, because it is the blood that makes atonement by the soul in it. That is why I have said to the sons of Israel: ‘No soul of you must eat blood and no alien resident who is residing as an alien in your midst should eat blood.’” (All those animal sacrifices under the Mosaic Law foreshadowed the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ.)

they believe the soul is in the blood, and to take someone elses sould into them through a transfusion would be like tainting them, cause they don't know who it came from, this in turn wouldn't allow them into heaven

I asked one of them ( a man I worked with). They believe it is "eating" the blood, which is forbidden in the Old Testament.

They do but just with their own blood. Its a thing about no foreign bodies. My friend is a witness and a lot of the things percieved about them are wrong.
