Your uncle does have good advice. You shouldn't lie down or engage in heavy activity right after eating because you can get heartburn or upset your stomach. Wait at least half an hour after a large meal.

Yes.you should not lie down after a meal.Peristalsis that occurs while walking or standing up,helps push the food into the stomach, then into the bowels and other organs that filter toxins and breaks down the food into the necessary ingredients needed for the body.Such as iron, sugar, oxygenation,,and etc.
Peristalsis is the movement of the GI tract, that kind of wriggles around to get the food where it needs to go.It is most active when you first get up,or eat,and at night. That is why it is recommended that laxatives be taken first thing in the morning or just before bed.AND NO you can not feel the wriggling of peristalsis.

You shouldn't lie down after eating, neither should you do any sit-ups 30 minutes after a meal. It's good to stand up or walk around for a while especially after your dinner coz your metabolic rate slows down at night.

I think your uncle gave good advice. Gravity helps get the food in the stomach and assists in digestion. Less chance of food attempting to come back up if gravity is assisting.

He has a point. If you have a weak top sphincter on the stomach and it is prone to let stomach contents back up, you can get acid reflux and heartburn. Some people can get away with it and others can't.
