Switch the font to Wingdings2, and select the characters O P and R. I tried to copy them here, but they were converted to the default font. One is a Check mark, one is an X and the other is a Check mark in a box. Not sure what you mean by tick mark, but you can simply convert the alphabet to any one of the fonts in word to find the exact mark you are looking for.

From the menu select FORMAT, the FONT. In the dialog box you will see the fonts. Scroll down to Wingdings (2,3 also). There are other fonts that you can do this with too.

In word, type the alphabet. Then copy that line a grunch of times, say 10 or 12 lines. Select one of the alphabet lines, and then select a font from the Format menu. That will show what each character is in that font. Many fonts are not alphabet at all, they are special and design fonts.

Then you can play with the size and bold or italics for the particular character and font you found.

Another thing to do, is simply copy the character, rather than find it each time. Have fun with it.

Go to the "Insert" menu, and select "Symbol." Find the "tick mark," and click on it. If you don't see it right away, change the font to "Wingdings," and you'll find one there.
