As an adult with ADD, I was on Ritalin for a while. I am not taking medication now, but when I was taking it, it helped me to calm my mind down so I complete one task at a time instead of trying to do 10 at a time. For me, the Ritalin made me loose my appetite, and it also made me tired sometimes. My biggest problem with it was that I would forget to take it. I did not have the extended release tablets, so I had to take it 3 times a day. I stopped taking it, because my goal was to take it just long enough to develop some good organizational habits. It can be a great medication, as long as it is used to get you to your goals instead of being your end goal. I know some people have to be on it all time time, as some people have ADD worse than others. ADD is a life long condition, that is why it is important to use the medication (for both adults and children) to assist in learning adapting behaviors, so at some point in the future it is not needed.
