I am freaking out. I just miscarried after being on an IUD for 15 months. My fiance and I already have 2 children and there's no way we can afford a third child for at least a year. Both of our children were also concieved on birth control. Our oldest was concieved while I was on the patch and our youngest was concieved while I was on the Nuva Ring. I was also pregnant once before while using condoms. My doctor said I was fertile but I also thought that the IUD would NOT allow my to get pregnant. What are the chances of getting pregnant again while being on this form of birth control? Please don't say to ask my doctor because he also said that I would be very unlikely to get pregnant while being on this. He also said that I won't get pregnant again but I'm just paranoid.

I feel your pain. If you have already concieved children on hormonal birth control it means that you most likely have double or irregular ovulation. You are really fertile- which is great when you want it, but not so great now. The statistics for an IUD mean nothing for your body, so you probably want to do a combination effect of condoms and the IUD. If your insurace covers it, see if your fiance can get a vasectomy. It can be reversed and will reduce the risk of another baby a great deal.

It's possible to become pregnant with almost any form of birth control, there's always a rate of failure no matter how well you use it. If you don't want to get pregnant again it's safer to use two birth control methods instead of just one. If you're already on the IUD get your husband to use condoms too.
By the way, long-term use of IUD can cause problems with the uterus later on.
