Why doesn't the Catholic Church replace their typical, tastes-like-cardboard Eucharist with Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers?

They taste great, and come preloaded with symbolism!

It looked like there was a lot of antichristian talk, so I figured a sliver of humor was in order.

I'd make a funnier question, but I don't have the wit.

Because you can't eat just one! lol! Sorry, but all the stuffy questions filled with tension were kinda getting to me. We gotta love and we gotta laugh, even at ourselves sometimes.

Not all Catholic Churches use the same "tastes-like-cardboard" Eucharist. Sorry but we cannot use Goldfish Crackers because the are not unleavened. But I do know your point most do not taste very well but then you just wash it down with a drink of not-so-great-tasting Church wine.

It is not about taste or symbolism. We use unleavened bread just as Christ used in the First Eucharistic Feast. We believe that it truly becomes the Body and Blood of our Divine Lord.

The Catholic Eucharist for one is not a symbol. We believe in transubstantiation--the changing of the substance of bread and wine into the Body, Blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ.

Unleavened Bread is the pure matter of the sacrament along with wine made from grapes.

I'm Catholic and I've had some good tasting Hosts...and also the kind you mention. Unfortunately, there's very strict guidelines for making them.

I've thought about joining the Moravian Church. They serve coffee and pastry during their services.

Because of the same reason Catholicism does a lot of things ... because they have done it that way for a long time. Tradition is a very important aspect of religion to many people ... they find comfort in how it does not change.

.. why change ?

I understand there is still a large supply of Eucharist Wafers left over from the middle ages ... (no wonder they taste like that...)

the holy eucharist cannot be remplaced by some thing else. i am a catholic. jesus himself said to his disciples: do this in memory of me" and " i am with you until the end of time" in our days there is freedom of religions. don't underestimate other religions. we catholics we have a great respect for all religions and cultures because we know that God is present present not only in our chuch but in all the chuches god manifests himself. be carreful, you might end up discussing with God himself.
