good question and i would have to enquire what the voice says because it may be one of many things
it may be your own inner self /conscience/higher self etc so this voice should always be listened to
it may be spirit voices as in mental mediumship this is how spirit communicate .. so i would ask who and why the voice is there and this voice should never be nasty as spirit come with love .. so getting validation for such voices is a must
it may be schizophrenia where the voices may be threatening or harmful and seeing a doctor is a must

Interestingly, when schizophrenics "hear voices in their heads", it is sometimes possible to get them to stop simply by having them hold their mouths open or hum. Apparently those "voices" are simply subvocal "self-talk" misidentified.

It's fairly certain that essentially the same thing is going on in religious believers who think that they hear "the voice of God" (or of Satan). That's not to suggest that those folks are schizophrenic or somehow "pre-schizophrenic". There is certainly a full range of accuracy in identifying sources of one's thoughts among people. We only rarely notice it simply because it only rarely makes any real noticable difference.
