1. Declutter. If you haven't worn it, or used it in the last 6 - 12 months throw it out. If it doesn't fit, throw it out. If it's broken throw it out. Or if you can't bear to just dump it give it to a charity or someone you know who will use it, wear it, fit it. Do this every 6 months at least.
2. Clean. Dust, vacuum, mop, make the bed every morning, put things back where they came from.
3. Decorate. If you don't like the colour of the walls paint. Buy a new bedspread. Make it yours.
N.B. It is important to clean AFTER you declutter not before, as decluttering tends to be a messy business.

Put things in groups: All reading materials on a book shelf, all the beddings in the closet, all the photos on a table, etc. Separate the sleeping area from the other (reading, clothe-changing) areas, so you have a room-within-room feel and everything looks organized and relaxing.

hire a skip. anything you dont use or want just toss it out or give to charity shops. takes no time at all and cleans the place instantly. i do a major clearout every year
