"Who loves gay people more -- those of us who warn of the medical (and spiritual) perils of their lifestyle, or those people who enable such a medically dangerous lifestyle?"
Found this in response to an earlier question of mine that doesn't even mention homosexuality. Curiously enough, it seems to have come from email correspondence with another who preached the same argument (someone I found preaching in the Gay, Lesbian & Transgendered group).
I've spent nearly 30 years defending persecuted minorities, including gays. Seen Christians argue more openly about their beliefs. This business of 'worrying about their health' is a new tack obviously intended to obfuscate their true motivation: religious bigotry.
Considering this 'health' concern is based on inapplicable stereotypes invented to disguise religious zealotry and bigotry, what do you recommend as a response?

CatholicMOM: "I don't know why our society should support the sins of a minority group of people whose only common characteristic is sinful behavior. Should murderers have rights?"
So gays should be compared with murderers? And this is not an example of encouraging hatred against gays? Not an example of religious bigotry? Everyone should be forced to live by Christian dogma? Conversion by the sword, if the word won't do?

nobodiesinc: "You seem to believe..." that persecution of a harmless minority by a majority is wrong. As do most secular governments. If christians have a problem with that, they've developed too much of a taste for the handle of a whip.

Magaisa: Sodom and Gomorrah weren't about homosexuality, they were about -rape-.
Interesting that Lot offered his two virgin daughters to the rape-gang. And he was considered 'holy' enough to be saved.
Interesting also that God destroyed not only the rape-gang, but every unborn baby, every new-born baby, every child, every woman, etc... God doesn't care who is guilty, He just loves killing Humans, as many as possible (or have you forgotten the Flood killed every Human on the planet except eight)?

Point out that a homosexual relationship is no more or less risky to your health than a heterosexual relationship. The "(and spiritual)" part of your quoted comment is a dead giveaway that you're right about their thinly disguised motivation.
shafiq: Far more heterosexuals have anal sex than homosexuals. Should we then condemn all heterosexual relationships on that basis?

BY YOUR USE OF THE WORD BIGOTRY you assume that all Christians that attack homosexuality do so out of hate? Just because our beliefs are unchanging doesn't make us bigots. I don't hate homosexuals. I don't persecute homosexuals. The abuse of human sexuality in whatever form is sinful. I don't know why our society should support the sins of a minority group of people whose only common characteristic is sinful behavior. Should murderers have rights?

Christians shouldn't hate people who live in sin. homosexuality is wrong, nasty and not even natural. anyone knows that. people just look for excuses for their sick behavior so they try to blame Christians or they will say "i was born that way", and we all know that's not true. they need to take responsibility for their own actions. and one day they will pay the price for their actions whether they think they will or not. thinking you wont doesn't change anything. people are not gonna except homosexuality cause they know its wrong. i do not hate people who choose to live that sort of lifestyle, there is no reason to hate them. i have a male friend who chooses to live a homosexual lifestyle and i still like being his friend. just because someone chooses to live a homosexual lifestyle doesn't make them a so called bad person, they are still humans who sin, just like everyone else does.

Everyone bases their beliefs on something. The Christian bases his beliefs on the Bible. The orthodox Christian bases his belief on the authority, inspiration, inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible. You seem to be saying people can base their belief on anything they want except as the orthodox Chriistain does. You are also saying people can base their beliefs on whatever they want and practice those beliefs unless they are othodox Christians. You seem to think you are the one in the highest position and are able to make the decision for what people can base their beliefs upon and whether or not the can practice those beliefs...

Don't wory about health. You, know heterosexuals have just as much of a chance as getting it as homosexuals. And those who have sex, have it accepting the risk of getting AIDs. That's why before deciding to have sex with someone, your should either use condoms, or get a blood test for both of you. Rule of thumb that I have: If he/she is a human, who cares what they do in bed? Why should WE worry about people who KNOW what can happen without taking precautions?

I don't think it's a matter of loving or hating them, but leaving them to persue their life in the manner that they see fit to live it. So, in response to that paricualr question.. I guess that those who enable a medically dangerous lifestyle "love" the gays more.
Personally.. I don't love or hate any paticular race or lifestyle.. I hate paticular PEOPLE... wether they're white, black, gay, straight.. doesn't matter to me if I don't like you.

Both the eating of shrimp and homosexual acts are abominations according to Leviticus.
