One of my kids is finishing up an immersion program at Concordia Language Villages in MN and I am looking for a language school for the summer 2007. He has been out of the country before, but always to Europe, never to Central or South America. I want to find a 6 or 8 week immersion program in Spanish that is really rigorous but also in a place that is very interesting. Any recommendations? What schools? What countries? Why? He likes the nuances between say Argentinian Spanish and Mexican...and Spanish from Cameroon and from Barcelona. I don't feel the 'need' to necessarily send him to Madrid...and I would like perhaps for him to live in a country that struggles a bit. Thoughts? Schools? Recommendations?? Links?? Thanks!!

I would say Argentina. Mexico has a lot of slang words and sometimes they speak spanglish, so I don't know how much your kid would be actually learning. Argentina is very interesting, and besides it on the southern hemisphere, so it's winter now, and in general it's very interesting for vacationing almost anywhere.
I'm not familiarized with argentinian schools for that kind of thing, but I'm sure there are a lot of them. I wish I could help you more... good luck with that!

You would don't forget one other place inside Guatemala. While Antigua is obviously a extra scenic place, additionally it is filled with foreigners talking English. If you're severe approximately utilising the time to be trained the language you would don't forget going to a college in a much less touristy discipline. There are a few good recognized and centered faculties within the town. The Miguel Angel Astruias School is likely one of the excellent and presents one on one courses at very well costs (lower than US two hundred every week).

A couple of years ago I briefly attended the Forester Institute in San Jose Costa Rica to study Spanish there (see sources). I stayed with a wonderful family, and had a great time. I've done these language study/home stay trips 7 times in all at three different schools, and I can say that the teaching at Forester was top notch. It was a wonderful experience, and on my recommendation a friend will visit this November. I'd love to go back.
