Im very interested in this girl im friends with at uni, but she has a boyfriend.
I was very friendly with her, fliting and all that, and she invited me out a few times but i was always working.

we just had a 6 week break in which we didnt catch up. I sms'd her a few times without response (she may not have gotten msg, i dunno)

we just started uni again, and ive decided not to seem like a loser and go up to her. (before break we would always catch eyes, or walk near each other for a small convo or, wave and all that)
Im purposely avoiding eye contact and am not gonna initiate convo

My mates say she is always staring at me, or looking at me (ive even noticed her looking in my direction.

I think what its all about is i feel our friendship was hurt by 6 weeks no contact from her, and i feel hurt. I want her to come to me and say hi, rather than that 2 second head nod when our eyes meet.

am i being an idiot by ignoring her, or just retaining dignity.

I don't think you're hurting her. I think you're hurting your possibility of ever getting a chance with her. It sounds like you're the one with the crush. If she's not married, there is still a chance to win her over, but not if you play games. You need to rethink your strategy on this one...

you're not being an idiot pal. NOR are you retaining dignity :) You're protecting your pride. Go talk to her. She thinks you don't like her. That's why she's scared to come up and talk to you. Just say, hey how've you been, it doesn't have to be a weird thing. And just say, did ya get my sms's? and she'll go, yeah... I've been real busy... and then say, well ok. I'll see you later then. and start to walk away... take 5 steps... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... and then wait... for a second as if you are listening.. and if she doesn't stop you then... just go away, and then you've got your dignity. And you're not being an idiot. It'll drive her crazy as well, that you just walked away. When one backs up the other pursues. trrrrrrrrust me... what the hell is uni?

Doesn't really matter if she's got a man. But from what I've been reading here most women want guys to make the first move.

Actually you are doing one thing women tend to find very attractive. You don't come on as desperate, and your somewhat hard to get. Women and men both tend to want the things we can't have, so they pursue it.

Love does not know any pride. The message you're sending is that you're not interested.
