The most expensive pair of speakers I've ever demonstrated were some McIntosh speakers in the early 90's. They were seven feet tall and had a huge array of drivers (can't remember the model number). They were only 25k for the pair... but the best system I ever heard was a top of the line Meridian system that was over 80k. If I ever win the lottery, Meridian is going in my new house!

I heard the Wilson speakers at an Hi Fi show several years ago. They were $80,000 for a stereo (not surround) system THEN. To tell the truth, I couldn't tell the difference between them and other systems costing a mere $8,000. In fact, above about $4,000 the differences were very small.

I have listen to the high end B + W, they were over 10,000. I know of the Infinity's that are 50,000, and the B+W snails I think they are like 50,000
I know that Krell make a great high end,
but the best I ever heard is in the Intrepid museum on the south street sea port. They are a pair of Kef's, they are about 6 feet high and about 6 feet wide. they made the sound of a plane taking off the ship, it was incredible
Yes there are a lot of high end, like Jaunas, and Conrad - Johnsons. I will never own them, my house is too small

i heard the B&W nautilus it was finished in pure rosewood it was a dynamic looking speaker and one of the clearest I have heard this was about $20,000.00 Then of course you have Martin Logan and a great italian speaker called Sonus Faber, they are awesome, but as far as good music listening speakers go, there is a speaker company called Spendor....they have an awesome product called the S8, I would compare these to any of the above speakers and it retails for about $1600 - $2000.

The finest is a grilled cylinder, 6-8 ft. high, 4-6 inches in diameter.
360 degrees surround sound. New product.
Replaces 4 or more standard speakers. I saw a band that replaced $4,000.00 in speakers with "one" of these Fantastic sound..
$2,000.00.

best i've heard is Wilson Grand slams at $80,000 (stereo only) myself personally own a cheaper pair :-), good rule of thumb spend twice as much on the speakers or more then the cost of the amp you are using
