Regional accent variations...it's why people from the southern US speak differently from people in NY....it happens in all countries.

Just like every country, there are different ways to speak the same language. There it is High German and Low German.

There are different provinces in Germany and each has it's own dialect, much like accents in the US.

Even so, everyone in Germany also speaks high German (hoch Deutsch) which is the universal form of the language.

That's the way it is in all countries. Similar to the development of different languages, different dialects developed. In earlier times there was no real intermingling of people, there were natural barriers and isolation. Thus idosyncrasies came about.
