mohomed wanted muslim men to beat their wives if they do not obey the husbands (sura 4/34)
do muslim men take mohomed's teaching on this literally? and do muslim wives actually pander to these teachings like sheep?
if the answer is yes then what kind of a world would this be?

it is a cruel religion afterall, that is a fact no matter what they try to say that is isnt

I am not a muslim but the explanation is very easy. All religions in the world have a core that is based on respect, discipline, belief; now, thousands of years ago, not all people were able of abstract thinking and analysis so the only means of education were those physical in nature (for example how you slap a small child when it is not obedient because you cannot simply explain to him that what he did was wrong); today however, the methods proposed by doctrine might seem "old fashioned" (lightly speaking, "brutal" can be more adequate).
Again, this rule is valid for almost all religions, christianity included!

Not true. I hope you could teach more about Islam and do not depend on a sterio tape of what Islam hated people says.
And if you are really interested to learn about Islam You will find that the prophet Mohammad had never beat his wife. He have been acted very respectfully with the women whatever she did.

When I was in Israel last year there was a article in the paper stating an author had been arrested (Thank God) because of His latest paper on how to beat your wife and not leave bruises. (He was a Muslim)
I would like to believe this is the exception and not the rule but.....

Yeh actually i think you need to know something about Islaam befor posting about it. Allah revealed the ayah concerning women who are behaving very badly, the command is to stay away from them and then finally hit them lightly on the wrist or arm or like that to show them you are serious. Actual punching is completely forbidden, as is hitting the face or bruising or causing any actual bodily harm

woa woa woa. not true. please get some research. and the only men who beat their wives are stupid ones who can't read the quran enough to know what it really says.
it says, that men need to be able to control their wives, and if the wife is doing something like prostitution, and he cannot control him with his words, than show a very light form of hitting, only enough to get the wife to listen to you. NOT NOT NOT NOT to hurt her.
