I just read a little about this in Discovery.com's military section but could not see the other details. Is it actually a sea going vessel or just an amphibious beach landing craft? A picture even showed it with an aircraft landing facility.

I just checked the link for the site you visited. It's very similar to the HSV-X1, and X2, which are catamaran hulls, made of aluminum so that they're lighter and go way faster than traditional navy ships. The angled superstructure of the ship assists in cutting down on the area where radar waves bounce off the ship and back to the receiver of the radar unit that would be searching for targets or contacts. The flight deck is actually only 2 landing spots for helicopters, and the well deck may hold LCACs, or just equipment. These ships are very versatile and can go not only forwards and backwards, but side to side as well. I got to go on the HSV-X2 when it was docked next to my ship when I was in the Navy. It didn't need tug boats to help it pull up to the pier, like most other Navy ships do.

A wild guess... Maybe its the new forward assault ship theyre starting to build? Its a ampibios landing ship with a well deck and a hangar.

I dont think its a submarine since these usually gets a SS or a SSN designation (Silent Servise). Johan.
