most likely gravity fed, the same way ancient fountains are still run, could've been pressure fed if built on springs of water

If the source of water (possibly a water tank) is at a level above the fountain sprout, it will create the fountain without the pump.

Flow from nearby rivers were diverted through pipes, then with the use of smaller diameter pipes as the flow reached the fountains, thus increasing the water pressure to the fountains.

At Versailles I believe this was one of the earliest and finest examples of this type of fountain and it was gravity fed i believe,but with some ingenious twists which were unique at the time,think it was to do with hydrostatic pressure but cant remember what.

i think that pressure was created and the h2o was made to pass through small places to create pressure
