"Guilt" is derivated from "regret" (or "remorse"). Regret is one of the most useless things in this world (among "jealousy" for example).
The point is that you have to learn a lesson from everything you do, be it good or bad. You never have to feel bad about something you did, mainly because you can't do anything about it in the past, but that is no reason to be irresponsible and let it happen again.

No, guilt is never a good motivator, because it makes the "guilty" person feel bad about themselves, lower their self esteem and confidence and introduce more doubts than solutions.
People who feel guilty are not very productive and usually doing things only out of fear, rather than any real positive motivating factor.

Good question! ... Um let me think.... Feeling guilty is the beginning of the awareness that we are going wrong... Just feeling guilty isn't enough.. it has to be coupled with strong positive actions. But feeling guilty and continuing with the problem does retard growth.

Guilt is only a barometer of how bad you feel about something...and is an otherwise useless emotion...for when we learn to forgive ourselves for our mistakes; we learn how to forgive others...and forgiveness plays a big part in how we feel about others. It then enables us to know compassion...and from compassion comes love...something the world seems to need more of...and would benefit mankind...and honor all that is good. I do not see this with "guilt." Love is the great motivator...not guilt.

it depends....some might realise the folly, feel guilty & change for the better & here guilt acts as a good motivator..others might keep feelin guilty & just ruin their days..so it all depends on the nature of the person..
