Smoothsophie? Do you live somewhere under the rock? For your information US government is running green card lottery from (I think) 1965. Basically, they randomly choose 50,000 people from all legible countries (who applied for green card and meet very basic requirements) every year to come and live in USA legally. You can find more information about it on wikipedia.
When you applied for lottery, if you won, you should get written confirmation about it by mail, but you will probably have to submit more forms before process is finished. I think these days they might send an e-mail as well, but definitively you should get written confirmation of it in your mail. If you are not sure about dates when information is due or you think something might go wrong with your mail, contact nearest USA Embassy.

All winners receive notice by mail. See about halfway down this page, under "Selection of Applicants:"
