The Celeron has the higher clock speed at 2800MHz however the Sempron is clocked at 1600MHz it may look like the Celeron is the better processor but its not. The architecture of the Sempron allows it to outperform the Celeron, there are two different types of Sempron a socket A which is outdated now and a socket 754 and allows for faster Front Side Bus (FSB) speeds. You'd expect to get around 800Mhz FSB motherboard. Where as you'll only get around 533MHz FSB - I have no idea which Celeron Model your talking about so the FSB maybe be different.

AMD have been beating Intel for the last 2 years but now Intel have just released their Core 2 Duo processor which can outperform an AMD FX 60 (very powerful processor and flagship processor for a while).

In your case go with the Sempron get a socket 754 motherboard and high speed RAM to get a not bad system.

They are both budget chips.

You will probably see next to no difference between the two for normal everyday computing.

If games are going to be of primary importance then neither of these two processors are good enough really. For games you should look at getting an Athlon 64. The Athlon 64 4000's have dropped in price quite significantly recently. For games though you will also require a good graphics card.

Video encoding is also processor hungry, so if video encoding is your bag then the Sempron and Celeron are not a good choice. Intel used to have quite a lead over AMD for video encoding but that lead is getting smaller and smaller. In fact AMD may have overtaken Intel in that department.

If you are not bothered about games or video encoding, then either of the two processors you have listed will be fine for normal everyday computing for quite a while to come.

When it comes to the Sempron and Celeron, the Sempron has a lot more to offer at any speed.

Without getting too technical, I suggest you go with the Sempron if those are your only two choices. Although it runs at a slower speed, it has more L1 and L2 cache and uses an architecture that is more efficient than the Celeron.

AMD sempron is better, it has more cache memory and it has 3D-Now techmology, even with a good mother board you can work on Highend Graphics softwares also.

suggesion: Move with the technology... go for AMD 62 Athlon 3200+ or grater processor and a good Motherboard from ASUS.... this is for long range plan..

If u are planning for a gamming machine, Sempron is ok, choose a good motherboard like A8V-delux... etc

M is for cellular meaning the processors are basically meant for laptops... selection in the previous that in simple terms represent the style selection..usually speaking, bigger the style selection, greater effective it quite is going to be..yet in i3 , the version wont be that significant..
