(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.

Deuteronomy 21:11-14 I

If you see a pretty woman among the captives then just take her home and “go in unto her.”

Isn't it something that when 99.99% of the world was teaching that every person was a slave or property to the king who was able to rape, kill, etc as he pleased, along comes Israel and says people are not slaves, but may CHOOSE if they are in despair, to place themselves for a time as a slave. It was something only done in extreme cases where it was that or starve. If the situation does not work out, they can be redeemed. If it is decided that they want to have sex with a female, she is freed and made a member of the family. (That's not rape - that's protection from. Before you can "rape" her you have to be prepared to make her a wife with full legal rights). They can not be sold to a foreigner - meaning someone who would treat them as property and could legally rape them. And if the owner fail to live up to this contract - they go free.

I would take that any day over what the rest of the world was offering.

Like many things in the Bible, the complete will of God did not appear overnight. Paul in Romans refers to the process as moving from "the good, to the acceptable, to the perfect will of God." This is one of the many steps you will see in scripture needed to turn from a culture of total ownership of humans to a culture of the value of each human.

It is another one of the reasons that Christians are not bound by the Old Testament laws and rituals. Their purpose, again according to Paul in Romans, was to bring us to Christ and the fulfillment of the will of God. So rather than wasting time on rules that have nothing to do with today culture (because think God Christianity has changed the culture for the good) and are no longer in force, why don't we work together to bring the rest of our culture into the perfect will of God where every person can know Him and the value brings to each life.

Will you join me in changing our world for the better, as this law did?

First of all, you are quoting the wrong book!

Secondly, how can you possibly think that? In Islam, women are individuals in their own right, and are treated with respect. Unlike in western culture, they are not seen as sex-objects. And they are not sold as prostitutes. I think Americans are the ones who are going in that direction. OMG, I saw a little-girl-T-shirt the other day at Macy's that said "Pornstar" on the front. What next?

The Muslim woman who covers herself is protecting herself from unwanted attention. Men consequently respect her because they know her by her personality, not by her physical appearance.

Fascinated with "Pure"'s response .. As a reader of Gibran, Rhumi and Idries Shah .. I am certain much Islamic culture has a venerated place for women .. The "psychology" pure is alluding to .. and the Christian missionary interpretations are quite interesting .. This is a case where I'm here to study the responses ..

Do not judge an historical thing according to present values. Values and customes do change. This is exactly what some community do that stirs turmoils in the world today: trying to bring past values and culture into today's community.

I am not Muslim, but i have your answer.

Morality is subjective. Morality differs from society to society, religion to religion, country to country.

What may not be accepted in the US may be accepted in the Middle East, and vice versa.

Nonetheless, these are backwards practices used by backwards people.
