Nope. Those are just propagandas and rumours ppl are spreading. And i dont know for what cause do they do that for and what do they wanna achieve from this.
I am a muslim and so are my family. My mom and my sister themselves aren't completely covered. In fact they are dressed like everyone else. Same goes to millions of muslims out there.
It is indeed more of a culture and tradition for certain countries in the middle east to fully cover themselves but that rules goes to the non muslims too.
There are many stories about women getting into trouble in Afghanistan during the Taliban rule but then those are radical fundamental government. It is of course advisable to cover up as much as possible in the islamic religion so to avoid trouble such as rape and attract unwanted attention as dignity of a person, especially a woman is a big thing in islam. As im sure with many religion too. It is not a compulsary thing as to all other religion too.. but us muslims might have taken our religion more seriously than others. And for some take it to the extend that covering completely has become compulsary to their families.
But all in all, one do not get into trouble or arrested for such things.

If that is true than I think that all Islamic woman should denounce their religion and become westernized ,have the right to vote, not have to walk "behind" their husband 10 paces or whatever idiotic rule that they have.
The fact that our country supports Saudi Arabia which allows discrimination against woman should change once Hillary Clinton becomes President of the United States.
Why would woman in the 21st century have to follow rules that were made thousands of years ago?
It is ridiculous that this question should even be asked in the 21st century and to think that people actually live like this in today's world in unbelievable.
If an Islamic man wants to treat woman like second class citizens why don't they buy an island somewhere far away from everyone and do what they want there, and leave the rest of the civilized world alone.

i dont know what do u mean by "not completely covered". but i ll tell u the criteria that is for both men and women.
1. The clothes worn should be loose and should not reveal the figure.
2. The clothes worn should not be transparent as one can see through them.
3. The clothes worn should not be so glamorous to attract the opposite sex.
4. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.
5. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religions.
as far as arrest and trouble r concerned i have not seen any incident or arresting or troubling some lady for this.majority of women take care of their dress and those who do not, they r not considered as v good ladies. u can request them but cant force them. yea family concerns r something different. i mean if a man wants to force his sister or wife to be in proper covered dress and give them tough time for this, then thats their personal matter.
one more thing, women r suppose to be in covered dresses while they go out side or come in front of strangers. as in one place Allah says in Quran(for men specially) ""Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do." [Al-Qur’an 24:30]
for women Quran says,"" And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons..." [Al-Qur’an 24:31]
hope u got ur point and may be some new informations 2.

I live in Holland right now and there are a lot of Islamic people here. Most of the women wear the traditional garb, but there are some that only wear a scarf that completely covers their hair, and there are some that dress just like anyone else....really a strange lot they are.

Stupid crazy americans, you're funny, where did you hear that? It's totally untrue, but I think it's funny. Your next question: Do they have cars in Marroco or they still use camels? lol, it's fun to see how some americans (not all of course) are so naive. I bet you never went out of the States and that you think it's the best place in the world (WHAT A JOKE!!!). I think the worst thing is that most of the answers to that question are "Yes" or "Right", you're so pitiful it's sad!
And wait, that's so funny Citation: "a soul is a soul and all will be judges by the almighty according to their deeds but not in islam. " lol the ALMIGHTY... What a joke!

Wow. That idea is seriously messed up. Only in Saudi Arabia...
And methinks its the law in Iran for women to cover their hair.
But otherwise, you would be surprised to see how modern some Muslim countries are. Example, visit UAE (Dubai) and you'd think you're sitting somewhere in Europe.
Very primitive views. That's like us saying people still live in teepees in the States. And vikings still exist. Or something...

Country to country it is very different .. In Lebanon or Turkey laws are traditionally less restrictive... In Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia things are much more restrictive ...
re:just curious .. I wouldn't be surprised to find I'm wrong in regards to parts of Pakistan .. But I suspect in the tribes of Northern Pakistan .. there are not many women wearing tshirts and jeans ...
re:Yoshi .. share what you have seen then .. if you do so with less hostility, and less vanity of travelling(none of us go everywhere-ever been in Australia?).. I'm fairly certain some will listen to you .. but you cannot say in all honesty- that there are not some Islamic cultures that put women under some restrictions in regard to dress can you?
re: Muslima- where are you? .. I want to learn the variations country to country .. I am never surprised to learn that there may be distortions given to us in our medias ...
re:sayed and maham...again completely interested to learn .. what countries you speak from ...

Only places where Sharia Law is implemented.
And I don't believe they just get arrested either.
Sharia Laws are quite strict. Not unlike the old testament laws. Remember stoning, eye for an eye? It's more along those lines.
