First impressions are the most critical of all meetings:
Within the first three seconds of a new encounter, you are evaluated… even if it is just a glance.
People appraise your visual and behavioral appearance from head to toe. They observe your demeanor, mannerisms, and body language and even assess your grooming and accessories – watch, handbag, briefcase. Within only three seconds, you make an indelible impression. You may intrigue some and disenchant others.
This first impression process occurs in every new situation. Within the first few seconds, people pass judgment on you – looking for common surface clues. Once the first impression is made, it is virtually irreversible

Absolutely. If you do not make a good first impression, chances are, you don't get a chance to make a second one. If you are out meeting people of the opposite sex, you can make a good first impression by dressing neat, clean, with good personal hygiene. Also you want to be able to articulate yourself and exibiting good manners. Be interesting where one would want to know more about you and show you are a potential.

You only get one chance to make a first impression and that is the one that counts. If it is not good, chances are you will never be given a second chance to make a better one.

Depends. They are important and they do carry some weight but you really have to get to know someone. First impressions are ok tool to judge people though.

Not really...in my case I mean. We shouldn't really judge someone based on our own shallow assesments...That's why I love webdate_dot_com...I get to chat up with lots of interesting guys! For me, first impression are not really important.

Yup, I think I heard it was 6 seconds for someone to size you up and form an opinion. You might get lucky if you try really hard to change that.
