If it didn't, how come our years are based on it? E.g 2000A.D, 100B.C, and so on. Or are they?

The crucifixion has no true archaeological evidence. The only accounts of it were written over 100 years after the "fact". Biological evidence shows that if it did happen, it wasn't the way described, because the human body's weight can't be supported in such a fashion.

The numbering of years is a little bit trickier. We use AD because of the chuch's influence on the times. Every culture had a different calendar (the Mayans and Aztecs for example). It's pretty logical to assume that people in the old testament, didn't count the years backwards to the birth of Christ. Somehow a math error by monk's attempting to ascertain the actual year of Jesus' birth placed it at 6 BC...leaving out 5-1!!! Another thing to take into account is that the modern calendar started at the year 1, theoretically. This same math error is why biblical scholars have such a hard time trying to figure out the second coming...is it 2000, 2001, 2033 (2000 years from J.C.'s death) or 2034 (based on the whole year 1 thing).

There is no proof of it, and no records other than the gospels.

It's not at all likely to be true. None of tests applied to historical events accepted by scholars for accuracy have been passed for the stories written in the new testament about Jesus. Even the town of Nazareth has been confirmed as only a burial ground until well after the period when Christ is said to have walked the earth.

Without one shred of corroborating evidence, the crucifiction is simply a dramatic setup for the rising from the dead.

As Thomas Paine said, "The Christian Mythologists tell us, that Christ died for the sins of the world, and that he came on purpose to die. Would it not then have been the same if he had died of a fever or of the small-pox, of old age, or of anything else?"

I am a Muslim, formerly a Christian. As a Christian, I noticed that Jesus said something very curious when he was up on that cross: "My God, my God, why hast thou foresaken me?" What blasphemy! Wouldn't Jesus, of all people, know that God does not forsake. And if Jesus really is God, why would he need to ask if he has forsaken himself???

Another thing was always of interest to me. In the Garden of Gethsemone, before being arrested, Jesus was praying. He called out "Let this cup pass from me, but let it be your will, not my own." Why would does he ask this?? (and again, why is God having to ask himself a question?)

On another note, why does God have to die (how is this even possible?), or send someone to die, in order for there to be forgiveness? God the Almighty should be fully capable of it Himself, right? And in fact, salvation is mentioned in the old testament, which was written before Jesus.

As a Muslim, I believe that Jesus was not crucified, but risen and saved from his enemies. It all fits in with the points I made above. The likeness of him was placed on another man, who was crucified in his place (hence the blasphemy on the cross).

i am a hindu, i an answer only with my perspective.
if there goes voting then i wil vote for him being crucified.
For very simple reason that in hinduism your guru will take pain for your sins and will want you to attain your goal, that is moksha meaning freedom from rebirths. Jesus did the same as a guru of many deciples, he took their sins as his own and took pain. But one must remember that crucufication or death is nothing but a symbol, their is no death of soul and jesus was a great soul. this can proofed by many ppl who asked for his help and got it.

Who else will answer your question but those whom you term as religious fanatics. If you are posing a question and it was answered, then it is your choice to accept it or not.

Yes, the crucifixion took place.

Well, despite what the Jews deny happening, their records show (and they kept very excellent records) that Sanctuary Law ceased at the exact hour of the occurrence of the Crucifixion. Once the Christ came, and knowledge was proclaim as to who He was, then every thing that led up to "His coming", was put away at the cross: namely Sanctuary Law. The planning, the waiting, the teachings that led up to the Advent of Christ, ceased to exist when it was made known to all the world just who He was. That event WAS the cruxifiction.

The trips to the temple with "the sacrificial lamb, goat, bull" ceased for the sinner of the Israelite nation: at the cross! No longer was this done. The Temple curtain, that separated the two sacred portions of the Temple, was rent by God at the precise hour (9th hour of the day) of His Son's death upon the cross. No longer was an innocent animal's neck to be shed upon the Temple's altar. The Messiah: Lamb of God, had come and paid the debt of Man's Sin for all eternity. The planning for the coming of anything, once it comes, is no longer necessary.

Sanctuary Law, practiced in the Temple for hundreds of years ceased, at that very moment of the Crucifixion. It was forever made null and void. It should be pointed out, that this was the only Law of God that was made null and void. The devil's apostate church would have us believe that all Law was nailed to the cross. NOT TRUE. The Ten Commandments are all in tact. They are universal. All successful Nations of the world, were successful to the extent that they followed true to the Commandments of God. America is an excellent example of such Law. The Third Reich was not.

Not even the Messianic Jew: those Jews who accept the fact that Christ was the Son of God, practice blood sacrifices. No lambs are brought before their altars either. They know Who came and died for their sins. While they may continue to practice the traditions of Jewish law, which they are under no obligation to do so, one thing is certain. There are no blood sacrifices made in their temple for the sins they committ before God today. They don't follow many of the traditions any longer. They pick and choose which to follow and which not to follow. They probably know in their heart, that the traditions of man are not to be followed, so they follow some but not others.

And one more thing. To the writer who mentioned him.....Thomas Paine, was a great mind, and we, as Americans owe a debt of gratitude for the freedom we have grown to cherish as a prosperous and strong nation, but Paine was incorrect in his writings on the Bible.

I love this man for what he did for this country, but his background tainted his perception of the Word of God. Remember his roots and which church was in power at the time he lived, and it is far easier to NOT hold him accountable for his inconsistancies and wrong thinking. He didn't have our hindsight. He grew up under the thumb of a tyrannical church, that sought to destroy all that was individual thinking in man.

Fortunately for America, this abuse drove him to make the trip across the Atlantic to the new world. His misfortune for the first 42 years of his life, became a prayer in Heaven answered. He changed the thoughts of man from having a king to rule over them, to having no king at all. His writings changed the world, and had a profound effect on all the generations that followed him. Thomas Paine WAS the American Revolution.

The only blood sacrifices made today are those proclaimed by the devil and his apostate church, and WAR is his tool. They continue to fester wars all over the world; playing both sides against the other, so that the innocent sons and daughters of each generation pay the price with their lives. With each war, their sacrifices of blood to their god, the devil is made. Their deception grows, their greed insatiable. Look to those who profit from war, and you will find their church and their god. Look to the secret societies and you will see who leads these evil and vile men and women. Jesus Christ did nothing in Secret, including the sacrifice of His precious life upon the cross at Calvary. End of story.

We as Muslims believe that Jesus was never crucified, but God made it appear to people that he was, Holy Qur'an, 4:157: "That they said (in boast), "We killed Al-Masih 'Isa (Jesus Christ) the son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allah"; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not". . Because in Islam there's a golden rule which says that each one is reponisble for his/her own sins.
And this clear through this verse:
Holy Qur'an, 2:286: "On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray:) "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; our Lord! lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; help us against those who stand against Faith."
According to the Islamic teachings, it's unfair for anyone to bear sins of another one. And that's so logical as you can see!
