It's a very effective training aid. Be sure to follow the instructions for putting on the collar. When you let the dogs together, be vigilant in watching their behavior. Your goal is to modify the older dogs behavior toward the younger dog. Have the remote (zapper) in hand and watch carefully so if you see aggressive behavior, zap right away. He should yelp and jump away. If not, you need to turn up the strength of the zap. Bring them in or separate them for a little bit after the first successful lesson. This ends the session with a lesson being established. After a while, put them together again and repeat the above, being sure you keep your eyes on them. If even once the older dog gets away with nailing the younger, this will reinforce the behavior you are trying to extinguish. In most cases when you take away a behavior, you try to replace it with an appropriate behavior. In this case, I can't think of a replacement behavior for him other than playing gently with the pack. Be patient and persistent. You'll end up with a bunch of happy safe dogs.

A shock collar will not hurt him. Put it on your arm and shock yourself to test it.
You have same sex aggression and a shock collar is NOT going to solve your problem.
You will need to keep the two males separated. Or one will kill the other.
After you have used a dog for stud they develop tendencies to have no ability to tolerate another male in their living space. They get very dominant and most will kill another male if given the chance, This is the problem you have. You are or really should for the safety of the young dog and for him to have a better life find nice home for him.
It will make your life and both of the dogs involved easier and much happier.

The only way a shock collar will work is if your there at the moment of the fight. And, yes, they hurt. May I suggest a muzzle. They're cheaper, don't require batteries (changing batteries on those things is not fun), you don't have to be there for it to work, and there's no pain involved!

it does hurt the dog.... there are alternative like collars that will spray the dog with a liquid like lemon juice so it stings but will not do permanent damage.
