You have to prove you were covered by insurance at the time of accident. That is why your policy card has an "Effective date" and "expiration date". Since you were not covered at the time of accident and did not have pending insurance, you will not be able to make a claim. And even then, you have to have the appropriate type of coverage to have damage such as this paid for, then your insurance goes up and you pay more in the long run.

A cheap, easy fix would be to get a door panel from a junk yard of a matching color off the same make/model/year and simply replace the panel.

You need to really think about running around without insurance, if not for your sake, for your son's sake, because if he is ever injured in an accident, you will be responsible for the full cost of medical treatment, the treatment for yourself, and the treatment of any other party injured during your accident. It's possible you may even be charged with child endangerment, which isn't really that much of a stretch of the definition of child endangerment.

150, 200$ is cheap compared to tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Possibly millions if you're sued and the other party wins.

Don't report this. You were driving, or parked in your car in a public place with no insurance. You will get your license suspended and pay lots of heavy fines and your insurance will be sky high for the next 5 years.

Even if you get insurance "now" to try to cover this accident, it won't be covered because the date of the accident will be before you got the insurance.

In the meantime, get insurance just to keep yourself legal on the road. Ask an agent for liability only....no medical or anything else. Depending on your driving record, this is cheap and keeps you legal as you drive around.

Your car won't be covered if you wreck it. But if you hit someone, you won't get in trouble and your policy will pay for their damages.
And if someone hits you and it gets reported to the police, you'll be able to prove that you're an insured driver.

you can report the accident up to about 15 or 10 days after it happens so if you get insurance and have her licensance plate # report it.
