Did Jesus get it wrong?

Question

In Matthew 24, Jesus relates to his disciples Things that are to come after his crucifixion.

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
This doesn’t sound to me like the resurrection of Christ. Talk of ‘the elect’ being gathered together by the angels does not sound like the events that took place after the crucifixion. I would say that we are still waiting for Jesus to ‘appear in the sky’ to ‘gather the elect’ two thousand years later. But the gospel goes on to say.

I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

People have written an awful lot about and in the name of Jesus and I can't think of a single thing I ever read about him that wasn't written by a person for some ulterior motive. The best bits in the New Testament are Jesus sayings and prescriptions for how to live. Even so there is no first hand proof that he ever existed and I doubt he ever did.

Many of his supposed sayings are very similar to sayings of the Greek Cynic sages, buddhist masters, Jewish sages and rabbiis, Islamic wisemen and so on. The only difference is there haven't been people writing crap about any of these people coming back with a host of angels and blowing bloody trumpets. When are people going to grow up and put an end to two thousands years of lies and bullshit once and for all?

No, He was talking about the generation that was living in the age when all of these signs came to pass, remember He said "this generation," after He told them the signs of His comming, wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes etc, the abomination of desolation(the antichrist), all these must happen first. People often say that these things happen all the time anyway, but actually they do not, all of these things would happen at the same time and would be global in its scale, and the generation that saw all of those things would not pass away, and if you have ant doubt, watch the news, increase in geo activity up by 80 %, new wars, famines, new diseases etc, all on a global scale never before seen, this is the generation that Jesus was speaking too and about so get right with God before its too late, coz we aint got much time left.

No, Jesus was speaking of the End Time events or "birth pains" which are happening as we speak, that lead up to his Second Coming, also called the Rapture...It is spoken of again in the New Testament and it describes wars and rumors of wars, increase in the frequency of earthquakes, famines, huge storms and natural disasters, new diseases running rampant, unusual heavenly events such as astronomical rarities and anomelies, changes that effect the entire world, especially politically which will set up the stage for a One World government under a very charasmatic ruler such as the "Antichist", who will be an intelligent and humanistic person coming in the name of peace and will try to unite the world during an extreme crisis, an example of this foundation is the formation of NATO and the EURO, which is becoming a interational currency, as well as satellite communications and the Internet, also it states that the love of the fellow man would grow cold, and there would be intense violence on a steadly increasing basis in the Middle East, especially concerning Israel. Isreal is a literal thermometer which reveals how close we are getting to Christ's return. However, it will happen when people are not expecting it...when people are still getting married and living their lives, but the events of today and tomorrow are unique in all of history and continue to show how close we are getting to Tribulation. Tribulation is the time period after Christ's return that all present believers in Christ will be taken up with Him. There will follow a time of peace as the world is united under the One World Government under the direct leadership of the Antichrist, who will not be clearly or overtly evil, but will be eventually overtaken by Satan and cause such evil and turmoil in the world that has NEVER been seen until then and will never be seen again. In the name of "Peace" and humanism, to root out all things that cause wars, Religion will be packaged and compacted into a feel good Uni-Religion or One World religion based on psychology and science. Christianity will be weeded out and persecuted, even unto putting Christians who have been newly converted AFTER the Rapture to death, who don't accept the new agreement. Also, anyone who accepts the MARK of the Beast, which some believe to be Man's Number "666" will be forfeit from being saved after this point, because during the process you will have to disown and slander God and His Son once and for all. The MARK will most likely be included in a hexadecimal number or personal identication number used to show your citizenship with the One World Government. It will allow you to purchase freely and might even be included in an implant chip with your bank and ID info...
The World Wars that follow this will utterly destroy everything and God says that if He had not shortened the days...Nothing would be left...When God intervens this time, He makes a new Heaven and a new Earth and all the newly converted Christians will be allowed into the new Heaven on Earth. The others will have to face the concequences for the choices they made of their own free will...God is a God of love and forgiveness and ALWAYS gives everyone a choice and a chance to choose wisely in life. He gives signs everyday that He loves you and hopes that you will go to Him so He can make you a new creation in Christ Jesus. So, I hope that answers your question. "Did Chirst's followers (and every generation since) mis-understand, mis-translate, simply get wrong or just miss-the-point of the Original Message?"

if you read the bible by the natural word, you will never understand it..it does not say clouds in the sky..it ays a cloud of testimony..read it again.
think about this...if God comes down n a cloud say for ex in china, how will the people in south africa see him..the earth is round..what about the people in the amazon
God is acording to John 1, a word..so are you waiting for a word to descend on a cloud.? it says that God is love...will love come down on a cloud ? the bible ays that if God is not within you, there is NO GOD..SO what now ? will you have to also be on that cloud and all the million of people that claim to have God in thie hearts...if God is a word and the life and the truth and you are still waiting for him, how can you have love and life on earth...God says, where 2 and 3 gather in my name, there i will be present..so why wait for God if He is already amongst us
? this generation you refer to is passing on every day - everyday people die - so how will they then have to wait fo rthis coming - they are dead..what this means is that God comes to you everyday in the form of a word..so he descends in the form as a word. the cloud of testimony is to prove the coming in the form of a word..wish you could call me so we can talk about this. who knows what he really said since the books were writen about 100 years after his death (I think more like 40 years to 100) and there were dozens of other gospels that were writen that the church didn't add in to the final version we use today, not to mention all the translation problems and rewritings, but eh maybe maybe not, we'll find out soon enough
