Remission with regard to cancer means that the tumour growth has stopped, and their size is no longer increasing - indeed, they are possibly decreasing.
This does not mean however, that the condition is cured. Depending on the cancer, whether it's reached stage 3 or 4 (metastases), then it is only a matter of time before through genetic mutation, a new strain of cancer cells start to grow, and new active tumours develop. I.e the disease starts to progress once again, and remission comes to an end. There is no limit to the number of times the patients disease may go into remission.
That said, remember there are no absolutes in a biological system, so no one can ever tell you what WILL happen, just what will PROBABLY happen based on previous experience.

Remission in a chronic illness means - the disease is under control and the growth or tumour has been successfully shrunk by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Usually if you are in remission for 10 yeas then its unlikely that the disease will return - Many cancer patients are given the all clear after ten years of being in remission. In some cases its after 5 years.

it will depend on the context within which it is used.
The term remission is used to describe the shrinking of cancer. It is used by doctors to categorize the extent of the shrinkage of the cancer.
Complete remission is used to categorize cancer that is no longer evidenced in tests, scans and x-rays.
Partial remission is used to categorize cancer that has shrunk but is still present.
Complete remission may mean a cure, however in some cases it may return. Partial remissions almost always return.
it can be used in the following context ( examples)
an abatement in intensity or degree (as in the manifestations of a disease); "his cancer is in remission"
remittance: a payment of money sent to a person in another place
(law) the act of remitting (especially the referral of a law case to another court)
absolution: the act of absolving or remitting; formal redemption as pronounced by a priest in the sacrament of penance
good luck

If your in remission from cancer it will generally mean there are no longer either any signs of the cancer, or any signs that it is growing. It is not the same as being cured, there is still a chance that it may return, and I think doctors generally know expect that a cancer will return eventually, although this may take so long that it won't happen in your life time.

depends on the context, usually it means that soemthing (usually bad) has turned a corner and is becoming less of a problem. Its often used int he context of Cancer treatements, and nearly exclusively in the medical field.
it doesn't neccesarily mean the 'something' is cured / removed, it often means its still there but reducing in size or impact. Its argued that you can never realy be certain that a cancer is cured, it may be 'hiding' somewhere waiting to regrow when the conditions are right for it, hence rather than cure medics use the term remission for cancer, depression, drug dependancy etc.

This is the easy person guide to remision!! when you are are in the recovery stage i think, like when you no longer have cancerous cells, but your body would still be recovering from the damage, or say you are in remmision from epilepsy, you no longer have fits, but you are in remision while they gradually decrease your treatment.

In terms of cancer, it is a period of non-growth. This can occur naturally, or as a result of treatment. This does not mean that the cancer has gone away, just that it is not progressing (at this time).
