Once I drove when I shouldn't have been behind the wheel. I drove about a mile and a half home from dinner with my wife.

Had I been pulled over, I imagine I might have been at maybe .06 so I wouldn't have been in trouble. But nontheless, itdidn't feel right and it's not something I'm proud of.

Yes. For some reason I was never caught. I am very lucky that I never harmed anyone. I am now recovering.

One thing I noticed about the other responses is that there are a few like that of Josh, "I'm a college student and I can figure this one out, why can't the rest of the world."

One of the first things we learn in recovery is how widespread such naive, uninformed attitudes towards alcoholism are. These attitudes are almost as bad as the disease itself, because they foster ignorant intolerance of suffering people.

Unfortunately, it seems that the only people who understand addictions are either addicts themselves, or professionals who have to deal with it constantly (police, healthcare givers, counselors, recovery group moderators). It's no small wonder that the recovery rate is so low, given the hostile behaviour by the rest of society.

Such people and their attitudes will not prevent me or anyone else from drinking and driving. Informed recovery professionals and the fellowship of other recovering addicts will.

Best wishes to everyone else in recovery, and please don't drink and drive. Take care, my friends.

Yes I have.
I no longer do.
I don;t know why but one day I decided that it was stupid. I became a bit of a celebrity because I would walk home when I was drunk and then back (2 miles each way), to the bar (the pub we called it) and get my motor cycle the next day. I never regretted that decision.
A neighbor didn't quit in time. Ended up in a institution due to brain damage from a car wreck while drunk. He can,t even feed himself now.

Yeah I have driven home drunk before, its not something I go and brag about. Nothing happened and I made it home safe. I'm not saying its an ok thing to do because its not. Its a chance I took and if anything happened I would have taken responsibility for it. I have to admit though that the yellow line is a pain in the *** to concentrate on.

No but I've driven high before. Luckily i wasn't too high to do any damage. I'm sure I will drive a little intoxicated one day. My mom seems to drive better when shes had a couple of beers. Not a couple of beers as in drunk but just a couple. Hell she drinks one while driving home from work after having a couple AT work. I'm guessing one of the winding down things she does.

Actually, I haven't. I'm terrified of driving even after only one drink because I am such a lightweight with alcohol. Besides, I have a hard enough time concentrating without being intoxicated.

Oh, HELL no. I would never drink and drive. Me and my friends and family members have had enough close calls with drunken jerks damn near running us off the roads that I know I would never want to do anything like that and put other people at risk to being hurt or killed over that kind of stupidity.

I'm drinking and driving right now! It's the only way I can get wireless after the bars close. I gotta go around neighborhoods looking for the free stuff.
