i recently got allergy tested and it turns out that i am 4+ (the worst score) allergic to my cat and dog. along with a whole bunch of other things that i can't control.....my doctor is recommending i get weekly allergy shots and i'm just wondering if this actually helps people, it seems like it will take a really long time to get a little bit of relief. i'm going to do it either way, but i was just wanted to get some opinions from people who have gone through this.

anybody have experience with this?! did they help you?! i refuse to get rid of my pets, so i guess this is the next step.......

thanks :)

Yes, shots have helped me a lot. I used to be allergic to all pollens, raw fruits and veg., dust, and some molds. It was two years before I noticed any improvement and 5 years before I had relief, but it really helps. I discontinued shots 5 years ago and I still have the benefits.

I took the shots for the same things, dogs, cats, etc... My reactions to the shots were by far worse than just having the allergies. i quit and just deal with the allergies. I go thru alot of benadryl, zyrtec, and singulair!

my brother said that it helped him.
I would try to do something holistically first. nutrition and health. go to a book store and find a couple books on healthy eating and nutrition. There is a good book called 'Eat Right For(4) Your Type' by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo
It could change things for you.It did for me. Good Luck in whatever you decide. p.s. I have dogs, cats, and kids and whatever the country air brings us in the wind. My brother keeps his dog outside or in the garage his cat too. mine are inside with us. no problem for me any more. I would not trust shots .

I was allergic to dust.
I go allergy shots for 4 years, and no I'm way better.
The treatment is very long, but it worth it

You can also try accupunture, or see a chiropractor or a kinesiologist who can help you with your allergies.

No. The only thing I found to help me with my allergies is Zyrtec. Nothing else. Have done shots, allegra and clarinex, but none compare to Zyrtec.

I used to get allergy shots, but then i stopped.
Turns out they were making me worse.I would end up in the hospital after the shots, so be careful.

i have had some severe allergy reaction, but not from pets, in my case i had to get the shot once only, and it helped me a lot. in your case, i say u get rid of the pets, give them to a friend or someone who'd take care of them other than you. not worth jeopardizing your health for! take care

oh yeah it can help. my brother was put on shots for years and he's a lot better. hardly has trouble these days unless he's being stupid and not taking meds.

it takes a while though so havign the cat and dog around will make your life miserable for a while
