my mum had me convinced that if I ran to the police they would simply return me home and she would then give me the hiding of my life... she said if they didnt return me they would put me in a girls home and where I would be tortured by the other girls and the women there....

I took off to the countryside, put my age up and worked...

later I discovered that had I gone to welfare (YACS then... but called DOCS now) and told them honestly what was happening at home they could have helped me.

In recent times I knew a young girl of 14 who was being beaten by her parents and she went to the police and her parents knew she was there and they turned up and demanded to have their daughter back.. the girl said she would not return to her parents home and so the police worked it out with her and called her gradnparents where she would be safe and she went to live with her grandparents...

all kinds of different answers could happen.. if you are in danger.. get help..

G'day Squibble,

Thank you for your question.

It depends on the circumstances. If you were under 15, you would probably be returned to your parents. If you were over age, you would be free to go unless you had committed an offence.

If you made allegations about your parents such as abuse or the police had reasonable grounds to suspect it, it might be a different story. You might be given to other relatives such as grandparents or aunts or uncles or placed into care.

You might also want to call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.

I have attached some other sources offering further information.

I have attached more resources for your information.

Good luck.

Regards
