It won't make any real difference to how your arms look.

If you don't progress onto bench presses (weight training) and keep at it for years you won't get much bigger, especially being female.

You will unlock a little extra strength initially and over time will get a bit stronger, but the effects will be all positive. And no, you won't 'burn off' any fat in your arms - if you start burning more energy than now and your food intake stays the same, you may lose some fat across your whole body - but you can't 'burn off' fat in a particular area. Ever.

I would recommend investigating which exercises are best for you - push ups don't have a huge correlation to swimming strokes. Some other exercises should probably be done to target other areas of the body as well.

Edit: Note the answer below seems to be suggesting you WANT big arms, which I think is not the case!

If you have any sort of swimming coach I'm sure they can advise you which exercises will be most beneficial - though push-ups do work the chest and triceps and these muscles are used in various phases of most swimming strokes, I think your development would be greatly enhanced with some more exercises well suited to your requirements.

Seriously, if you don't try to get big, you won't. Muscle is more dense than fat, so unless you put on quite a bit of weight (as muscle) there won't be much of a visual change at all. And even a slight change would probably make you look better, not worse.

None of the above.

Push ups work essentially the chest, but like in every move that pushes with the arms, the triceps are involved, so you will be working mainly the chest but the triceps too.

If you only do push ups, your arm could get bigger, but only on the upper back side (that don't looks good), the front side (biceps) will not work at all and the biceps is the muscle that make your arm look big.

So, if you want a big arm, the key is the biceps, then for a big well shaped arm, you will need to work the triceps too, the lower part of the arm is easier, just grab hard every time you work out.

Beginner? Work the biceps sited with your back straight, and please don't swing, better get a lower load.

Ahhh, and don't forget to work the 3 different grabs, palms up, palms down and palms in.

And for swiming work the shoulders too.

probably will tone your arms and make it firmer.less flabby if you know what I mean.but other than that, push ups don't really affect the arms as much as they do the thighs and abdomen.

BIgger....you'll tone up and burn the fat off, but gain muscle...so it would be bigger or toner but in a good way.
