Are domesticated pets sanitary to eat?

Question

My girlfriend and I recently ate at restraunt in china where we were served siamese cat. I thought it was delicious, and upon trying chihuahua, im stumped as to why more people dont give it a try? Anyways, i've taken in a few strays, and wondering if its okay to cook them as they are or if I should go to the doctor and get shots for them first. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Perfectly sanitary, providing they're well kept for during their lifetime. Got to cook them right though- a slow roast normally works best.

I ate dog and cat when I was in Vietnam, and didn't like cat much. But dog is delicious. Scorpion is even better, but they're quite tricky to find.

Having said that I'm not sure if I could eat a pet.....strays yes, pets no. But then you don't know how healthy a stray is, so maybe you should just stick to turkey.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to get too many thumbs up for this answer- funny the way we only want to save the cute animals. Seriously though folks, you should really try scorpion!

I am SO glad everyone is mostly in agreeance that eating cats and dogs is inhumane and gross. Next time you buy a low quality food like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Purina, Pedigree, Royal Canin, and so on....just remember that YOU ARE FEEDING YOUR CATS AND DOGS SOMEONE ELSES CATS AND DOGS. Vet clinics have admitted to sending their euthanized animals to rendering plants which then turn around and sell the mash of ingredients to pet food companies. *The important thing to remember is that majority of euthanized animals ARE NOT HEALTHY, they are diseased. And people wonder why I'm fighting to stop people from feeding these low quality foods?

I can only hope that if you continue this horrible behaviour that you use a method that is as humane as possible and not torture the poor animal.

GAH!! I've NEVER heard of that!! Neither would I ever eat a domesticated animal. I wouldn't recommend eating a stray animal, because you never know who its owner is/was. You might be eating a little kids pet which would mean SERIOUS frett for the child, OR you could be eating the phsyco drug dealer's pet that had been drugged up with crack!!
Now that thats cleared up, I would say its probably okay to eat them if they're from a restaurant with satisfactory cleanliness, but please don't go around picking up stray dogs or cats and eating them, thats not humane.

That is gross and inhumane, At a resturant is ok i guess because they are chinese that is their delicacy, but you pick up stray animals and eat them is gross, go back to eatting chickens, deer and whatever else that is at the local super market, because any other way you can get into ALOT of trouble and i will sit here and laugh for hours when your dumb *** is locked up in jail

If you live in the U.S. you can and will be arrested for killing domestic animals. Stick to the meat counter at your local supermarket, you are less likely to get thrown in jail for eating the array of meats displayed!

i don't know...when i was little my uncle brought home a medium size puppy. he was so cute i played with him and fed him. but you know how dogs grow really fast. i think he wasn't even a year old, my uncle's daughter brought the dog over to her grandmother's house. and my cousin's uncle killed the dog and cooked it. they even brought some back to our house to let us eat. sadly my grandmother made me eat a piece, i don't remember the taste i guess it wasn't too bad but after that i felt so bad. when i think about this now i just want to cry. i don't see how can you eat some adorable animal like that. let along you don't even know if the little fellas belonged to any body that's looking for them. and u want to eat chihuahuas now...omg...i own a chihuahua he is so lovable. i wouldn't trade him for anything else. you are here talking about is he safe to eat??? there's one word left that i can say to u....muther fcuker you are just fcuking sick and sick and sick and sick!!!!

I would only eat a cat or dog if I was dying of hunger and had to eat to save my life.
