Good Question. I'm a guy and the fact that you are asking it means you are about 90 percent there. Just do it the way that you would like to be treated if someone that you liked was going to let you down nicely. Leave him with some feeling that his ego will not be too hurt BUT remember that you don't owe ANYONE anything if you are not interested in the relationship anymore... DON'T let him make you feel bad about breaking up because a lot of times when you are nice they try and turn it around on you and treat you bad even though you were trying to be nice about the whole thing... If he starts to get mean then be stern and get away from him. If you are worried at all then do it in a public place but do it so no one else can hear you talking. Like in a booth at supper...and if you invite him to dinner to break up at least pay for the dinner. SMILE

What did you say? Silence? Yes, the best thing to do, though it is difficult, is just be completely honest and say how you feel. In the end, guys appreciate this more than hoping and not knowing. They want to know where they really stand. Then they can deal with it. It's part of the male psychology (everyone's really). Also it will help you to learn to be graciously honest when you need to be. This helps keep your head clear and to not get bogged down in situations and relationships that are awkward. Believe me, honesty is the best policy, and it gets easier to do, when necessary, once you have done it a few times. Good luck!

Don't be nice about it. Be very, very blunt. Otherwise he won't get it. Boys do not understand subtlety the way girls do. You might even have to go out with other guys for him to get the idea and move on.
His feelings will be hurt and he will be disappointed, but there's just no way to avoid that at this point. It's better for him to think you a mean person, and he can use that anger to help him get over it.
At some point, he might decide it's okay to be friends, but for the short term, it's going to be very difficult for both of you if you continue to spend a lot of time together.

Just tell him that you don't have time in your life right now for a relationship and when the time comes you will keep him in mind. If he's serious he will wait for you, and then mabey you should consider being with him. I found that relationships that start off as just being friends always last the longest.

Tell him you like other guy,,,,,,
Tell him that he is nice, hes OK, but you're interested in other guy, you have a big crush on somebody else.
Just imagine the guy you like and you tell him your feelings for him and he refuses you, .... what would he had to say so you wouldn't feel bad.

your mean & dumb for asking him that very sensitive question when you already knew the answer, forcing him to open up and become vulnerable for you, creating a conflict -- why would you ask a stupid a$s question like that if you didn't feel the same!!!, you don't deserve friendship - I hope he realizes that too.

Tell him quickly that it's what you feel, best to rip him open with one quick slash now than to drag him through the dirt and torture the poor shmuck.

sometimes when you try to let down someone nicely is worst because the other may misunderstand what you are trying to say. Try honesty. Trust me, he will apreciate it
