Lithium batteries are the best. They last longer.

Nickel-Metall-Hydrid (NiMH) because they are cheaper. If you are thinking of buying a device that needs battery, think AA or AAA. If your NiMH runs out you can allways buy regular batteries in any store every where in the world. And you can use them in all your battery-run devices, from radios, bicyclelamps you name it.

With the new powerfull AA cells with around 3000 mh they will last OK - and as said before - you can allway buy regular batteris in emergency cases.

You dont need a specific charger - one will do for all your needs.

Nickel cadminum are not as good as the NiMH.

Lithium-ion. They hold a charge longer, than the others. Doesn't leak
super easily like Lead-Acid, and doesn't have memory problems like Ni-cd

Salvador has the right info. However, other important aspects are the use you are going to put it to and the cost of the battery.
