My friend got pulled over last night, and she has a warrant for a FTA (Failure to Appear) and her license was suspended. (Yes, she is an idiot! LOL) The police officer was real cool, and just gave her a PTA (Promise to Appear) for court, and told her to drive away after he left.
Now why would the suspension come up, and not the warrant? And if it did come up, he didn't say anything...So does that mean it's gone? Don't you think he would have taken her in?
Is there a way to find out without calling the police?

Yes, theres a warrant. Yes he could have ran her in. But is it worth doing that for something thats really stupid?
Prison and Jail overcrowding is a big problem today.
I know of a guy- no kidding, his names Ron- who got 5 DUI's in ONE WEEK. So he went to Austrailia for 4 years. Came back, was supposed to do 6 months in jail. Jail was always overcrowded- for like 5 years. Finally they said "Pay the fines and we'll skip the jail time".
However, with interest and everything else? That cost him close to 50,000.oo. All for drinking ONE MEASURED GALLON OF BEER PER NIGHT.
I told him in the bar once I wanted to be there at his autopsy when he died- I wanted to see his liver (shot) and his lungs (layers of smoke and nicotine).
and thats real

Most likely it's a bench warrant. She was given a promise to appear, which says she promises she will appear in court this time. Basically if she doesn't appear this time, there will be no other chances for her. She needs to appear and get it taken care of. Along with her license. She's just lucky the cop was nice. I'm sure he didn't have to be.

There are lots of reasons why the warrant would not have come up. Perhaps the officer didn't want to deal with booking her, maybe dispatch didn't tell him of the warrant, maybe the jail wouldn't take her because it was too full or maybe it was a warrant from another county and it wasn't extraditable. If she knows she has a warrant, it is still active. They don't just mysteriously disappear.

Only a Judge can cancel a warrant.
ONLY a Judge.
That's why you have to show up in court.
You don't show, you get warrant.
GO to court, beg the Judge to remove it. Chances are if you don't snatch purses from Old Ladies..He/She will do it.
Call the police department and ask them to check the STATUS of a warrant.
The cop gave them a break, because, they are SUPPOSED to go to COURT! That's why they didn't ARREST THEM.
Just tell your friend to GO TO COURT THIS TIME.
If they don't go, then for sure they will be locked up. Because "the court" sees it like you're giving them the BIG MIDDLE FINGER! When you dont appear.

??? Failure to appear is from a city court and they did not put in into the national or state data base.
The police officer merely ran a motor vechilie licence check and not a criminal background.
It was close to his shift ending and he did not want to fool with it.
It showed up but the place that has the warrant did not want to pay to have them bought in.

she can ask the clerk at the courthouse where she was supposed to appear
and also find out what she needs to do to get her license reinstated
there might be information on the web, or a librarian might help you find out
