For some reason you are having a reaction to too much stimulation to your brain.
I agree with those who are telling you to stay off of medication. You need a mild sedative when you go out and you can accomplish that with passion flower tea, or valerian. Both of these herbs are sweet and gentle. Neither is habit forming and if you use them as a sleep aide, no hang over the next morning.
If you find you need something stronger, try rescue remedy a homeopathic combination that is really effective and you can still function, pretty good.
Then take a two week run of Siberian Ginseng. It will help your body to correct or adapt your system and regulate it. Just get at least a 300 dose of the root or herb. The root will be stronger and may cause you a headache if you are not careful. take it once a day for a couple of days and then increase to two a day , one at morning, and then another at around 3 p.m.
Don't take it at bedtime or you might not sleep at all. Different people react differently to ginseng so take it slow and easy and listen to your body and you will know when it is adapted. Try not to take it more than 3 weeks in a row. Anything if taken each day after a while will either stop working, or it will build up and cause a toxic reaction. So take it a while and then stop a while.
But I do recommend for you to see a doctor who practices herbal medicine, as well as western. You need to have some counseling along with your treatment. And I do not recommend a psycotherapist at all. Some things are just out of whack and if you don't think you are never going to get better, you will.
Anti-depressants are mind altering drugs, that might give you a short spurt of feel good, but they will have to be taken forever and that is a mighty long time.
Give your body a chance with a little push from nature to right itself, first. But if it is not working then go to the MD's I have failed to help you.

You have a social anxiety disorder it sounds like. You should see your Dr., read up on it and get some help. It totally can be controlled. I used to have that...I used to avoid malls, concerts, amusement parks, anything crowded, like it was the plague!
You should read a book called Mind Over Mood, it's a great workbook for anxiety. Learn relaxation techniques, and BREATHE. You should find out about cognitive behavioral therapy. It really helps...search attacking anxiety on google, Lucinda Bassett at the Midwest Center has great tapes and a workbook you can buy. Good luck!

panic (or anxiety attacks) Go see a psychiatrist & a Psychologist or MSW for therapy. The longer you don't do anything about it the longer it takes to recover. I had panic atacks for awhile B4 I was diagnosed. I went to support groups & meetings & Drs. & therapy for 2-3 years almost every day.I still am in recovery, but I am going to community college now & the state is helping me out w/ school & rent. I'm 45 yrs. old. It's never too late, but you have to perservere. I even had a couple of suicide atempts but was caught B4 I did.I know people who succeeded in killing themselves. I was helping take care of people who were worse off than me when I was geting better. I took care of 2 attorneys, 1 jumped off her balcony. Luckily she lived.Spirituality really helps.
