I've recently have done research on '96 Jettas, and for some people they are nightmares, and for others they love 'em. Why all the conflicting veiws? Is it because of where they are manufactured that impacts the quality of the product?

It just so happens that I own one, a VR6. I can´t say anything bad about the car other than it's a royal pain in the *** to find parts for it.

Otherwise the car runs smoothly and it's as perky as it was 10 years ago.

The conflict?

Mostly because people are inept with their cars. Although the Jetta is a sturdy car, a heavy foot, poor driving and absent car care skills will render the car useless in just a couple of years, and thus the bad reviews.

But seriously, ask anybody who owns one and treats it with the respect it deserves and you'll realize it's one hell of a car.

Cheers.

Sadly VW has had some issues for the last few year. The window regulator in that car have been a problem, also some cars have had some problems with the fuel injection system. However if the car has been well maintained it still is a good car. Just make sure you find a good VW tech and have him look it over first.

Don't buy a Jetta, it's poorly made and expensive to fix. Why Volkswagon? Why not look at a 96 Audi a4 or BMW 325i or a Mercedes c230 from the same year? If you want good German I would go with the Benz or the BMW.

depending on the previous owner, the VW is a solid car, I still drive my 1986 VW Golf diesel and it has 250000 miles on it, I would buy a VW over just about any other car, with the exception of a honda. Get yourself a diesel VW, they run for at least 300k and get around 50 mpg

I am a vw technician. if te vehicle has a good maintence record and is a manual and no signs of being wrecked you should be ok. i would advise you to stay away from the older vw automatic trans. they had alot of problems in those years i promise. i see them in all the time for transmission replacement so if you can drive a manual get it if not stay away from it. hope you take this info into consideration.

The problem of WV is that can only be repaired in VW dealer, and the cost of the repairs is very high.
