It's not uncommon for 25 weekers do have respiratory problems through out life. My guess would be that you suffered from Respiratory Distress Syndrome and most likely spent some time on a vent. You should find these things out and make sure you tell the doctor about it. Being on a ventilator can cause scar tissues on the lungs; resulting in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). You should find out if you had that. Ask your parents if they have copies of your NICU stay reports, or at the very least, your discharge papers. There's a good chance you do have asthma. GOOD LUCK and stick to your guns!

EDITED TO ADD:

You do have a pretty good chance of having asthma, statistically. But it depends on whether or not you have symptoms of asthma. If your current doctior is not taking you seriously and you really want answers, you should consider going to a Pulmonologist, or at the very least, another doctor. Don't waste your money going back to someone who doesn't listen to you or take your concerns seriously. GOOD LUCK!

The lungs are one of the last to develop fully - I worked in a hospital for a long time and it seemed like the newborns, even by a week, had pneumonias, and atelectasis, etc. Your lungs may have finished full development outside the womb. You may be likely to have a lot of allergies, shortness of breath frequently, asthma (as you stated), etc. There are exercises to build up your lungs - trying blowing up balloons.

At 25 weeks NUMEROUS problems are common. Just go to the doctor for an evaluation. Make sure you tell the doctor that you are having problems breathing and INSIST that the doctor do something about it.
