California's "Little Denmark"or Solvang is east of U.S. Highway 101 near State Highway 154. Danish immigrants established the town more than 50 years ago in 1911 and chose to adorn the village and homes with architecture reminiscent of their native land. Dedicated to the teachings of crafts and values of their ancestors, Danish is still spoken amongst locals.
The other site I found is. . .Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley Wine Country: Windmills and Wineries
This trail site takes you north to “Little Denmark,” where windmills spin lazily in blue skies in a fairy-tale village of curving streets lined with shops and cafes. You’ll visit and tour wineries in acres of vineyards flourishing in rural Santa Ynez Valley, which has become one of California’s richest grape-growing and wine-making regions, and you’ll visit small, quiet pioneer villages that haven’t quite marked the turn of the nineteenth century. Highlights include: historic villages, shopping, the Mission, wineries, lake boating and fishing, a resort, golf, horseback riding, ethnic dining, and an open-air theater. The detailed itinerary in this eTrail is a driving tour that features extensive recommendations for sightseeing attractions, recreational activities, lodging, restaurants, shopping, and more.
